When we put steamlocomotive.info together, we thought that the 'Notes' system we'd implemented would be useful in conveying individuals knowledge of various steam locomotives, and in a sense, I suppose it has been. Almost 2000 notes have been posted in the 18 months we've been operating.

Anyhow, one problem, as I see it, is that while these notes are interesting and informative and newsy, very few people actually see them, because it requires you to first browse to the locomotive in question, then click the notes button. So, we implemented a new feature. The last 30 notes posted can be read. The link that does this is in the Library section, or you can follow the link below. Some pretty neat information gets conveyed in these notes.

Great web site. I note that California leads the way with 212 steam locomotives and Maine has the least with 1.

The notes on this engine states that it has 58" drivers. That's pretty high drivers for an 0-6-0.

Still there, slowly enduring conversion to ferrous oxide (or is it ferric?).

The engine in Hagerstown ,0-6-0 6894 is b-10w

class switcher. The b-11k in Utica 6721 is
I guess a cousin. BTW, my tape measure read
56" when I measured the drivers. You will find
conflicting spec's in a number of places.

Our local chapter(U&MV)nrhs acquired the engine from the Carrilon Historical Park in
Dayton,Oh in 1999. We believe it was last under
steam in 1956.

Doug has done a very good job of compiling and maintaining the information on his site. I have one question though, what is the actual driver diameter of LS&I 2-8-0s #18 through #24? The site lists the sizes as follows:
#18 - 55"
#19 - 56"
#20 - 56"
#21 - 54"
#22 - 52"
#23 - 53"
#24 - 57"

And does #29 only have 50" drivers? Inquring minds want to know......

Who owns the 6894? Is it part of the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum? Is it on display or hidden away somewhere?

Unless something has changed fairly recently the 6894 is privately owned. It is not on display and the last time I saw it was sitting on one of the service tracks that lead to the turntable and roundhouse. In the mid seventies the engine was pretty complete, mostly just missing the gages. Unfortunately it has now been stripped of quite a few of the smaller parts such as injectors. I do not know if they were removed by the owner.

The 6894 is a good looking 0-6-0 that deserves a better fate. I hope someone rescues her someday.
