It is with regret that I have to report the sudden passing of longtime Illinois Railway Museum volunteer, David. A. Shore. He was found outside at his Harvard, IL home yesterday. No details are available.

Dave was widely known and will be remembered by many of us for his wealth of knowledge and his life long time committment to the preservation movement. He has been active at IRM since the earliest days and continued to be involved and work at IRM on many projects, in his retirement. He has also been very active with the Association of Railway Museums parts committee on various projects. He worked with several transit properties and as a consultant to the transit industry in his professional life. Let us remember the good times.

We will miss him.

Words fail me at the moment, I have known Dave for many, many years, and had been in contact with him regarding parts issues recently. I am truely shocked, he was a resourcefull man, with much more talent than most in the transit and museum field of car maintenance.

This is a major bummer! I too had know Dave for many years. He was active in preservation in California during the time he was a consultant to the Valley Transit Authority in San Jose.

One of the things I will always remember about Dave was his effectiveness as a trainer. Att one point while volunteering at a group in California, I took training and a refresher "hands-on" with Dave. I was impressed with both how well he operated and in how he instructed. He could be a prefectionist, but I have alwys felt this was a good thing. When you are the operator, you do have the well being of your passengers at stake. I was a really neat feeling to have Dave say later, "That Hello is a natural". High compliments from Dave. He will be sorely missed.

We are very saddened by Dave Shore's passing here at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum. Dave was here recently to witness completion of Red Arrow Streamlined Interurban Car 14, a project that he had a lot to do with. Dave will be remembered as a person who gave of himself, particularly his technical knowledge and contacts, to MANY museums, not just at IRM. In the case of 14, he located and arranged purchase and transport of a rebuilt air compressor from Japan, located a supplier for hard-to-find journal pads for the trucks, and a rebuilder of contact fingers for the accelerator. Hi tenacity for finding vendors and parts was unparalleled!

He will be missed!

Dave moved around the country a lot in his jobs. Wherever he was, he would help out at the local museum. He was always Mr. IRM first, but he was a tireless worker wherever he was physically located. We had the benefit of Dave's presence and expertise in the 1970's and early 1980's and are better today for his having helped.
