What happened to 1293 for Sunday?

Greetings all,

First off I have to say thanks to Jerry, Jason, and the whole crew at the OC for a great event. We are all very blessed to have a railroad like the Ohio Central that welcomes this type of event and loves to share a bit of railroading history with todays generation.

Just wondering what happened to the 1293 on Sunday morning out of Columbus. Last thing I knew the 1293 uncoupled from our train (the Saturday Cols-Dennison trip) and was heading into Columbus to turn. Sunday morning I head to a crossing just out of town for some shots and here come the F units with no steam on the train. Anybody know anything?

I was at Dennison Sunday and left before the Columbus train arrived but the word there was that there was a crack in the mudring that sidelined the engine. Jim

Did you hear why they didn't use the 6325 on Sat to go to Columbus -- we were on the train and received no information

BTW, I still have to wash the mud off my car because they had us park in an unpaved lot !

I heard the 6325 was not used since there was some problem with using the wye in Columbus at the last minute. The idea was then to use 1293 back to Newark and use that wye, then back to Columbus, so 1293 could then be in position to pull the train to Columbus on Sunday.

Hopefull someone from an official standpoint will fill us in eventually, but I am sure they are all pretty well wiped out today.

Sounds like the event was a roaring success at Dennison from what I heard.

I think the OC put on a good show... took a awkward site for something like this and made it work... lots of equipment displays... vendors.. models for the kids and live steamers to keep the younger ones thrilled... nice that mainline trains were coming and going at all times. I think the good crowds despite overcast and periodic downpours vindicated the effort. All in all, one of the best festival type shows since Railfair '99. Jim

We were on the 4 o'clock to Morgans Run, pulled by 6325. We got about 5 minutes from the shop and had to stop. Word was #4 drive axle had a hot bearing. The 6325 was left behind.

No matter what happened or didn't happen, the event was an outstanding effort made possible by lots of hard work by many people. I have nothing but admiration for what was accomplished, and heard no negative comments from any visitors. Even the periodic downpours were laughed off by most people. Mucho kudos to Jason, Jerry, John and the rest of the OC and Dennison folks who made it happen. I'm sure the next event (in 2006?) will be even better. Thanks again, folks.

for what it took to pull of an event the size of this, the few glitches aren't worth mentioning. I relized a life long dream, to see, hear,smell, and ride behind big steam. Dad and I were pulling cinders and coal dust out of our pockets after the rides. Awsome! Thanks to the Ohio Central and all involved for a greta time. Can't wait till the next one.
