Post subject: The Saturday 1293 run-by!

The 1293 run-by on the way back to Columbus Saturday was awesome --- I don't know if I have ever heard a Pacific work that hard. It sent chills down my spine. I think that sound would have dwarfed that of a F-15 taking off. Thanks to the engine crew for that show. That run-by alone was worth the trip.

Man, 6325 picked the wrong day to act up! I thought poor 1293 with 15+ cars was going to blow up on one hill towards the end of the trip on the way back to Columbus. She was down to about 12mph at the summit and was surely close to stalling. I'm under the impression that the diesals weren't doing much, if anything, to help (why were they there?). You're right, it was truly impressive.

I'm gonna ride behind 6325 if it's the last thing I do!

I had three trips behind 6325 over the weekend. It's a great engine. Hope to ride again some time.

According to Ted (the man riding the F's) we never went under 14mph, but 1293 was doing all she could at the top of Outville, next time anyone sees Scott buy him a Mountain Dew, he is probably still sweating after firing that trip! The F's were idling just in case but we never called back for them and they never helped.

He was assisting the stoker by hand and keeping excellent watch on our water. She was a hungry girl on the hills.

Yep those G5's were more at home on the plains of Canada weren't they, or the flats of Dennison to Coshocton. It is nice to hear them work though. Did OC ever find a CPR whistle for it?

It was a great trip for her. The question on the whistle will need to go to Jason or John as I do not have that answer.
