Latest report from the motorcar group that recently leased the Linden Branch of the Stockton Terminal & Eastern in California, for one dollar per year:

THE LAST HURDLE ON THE LINDEN BRANCH IS SCHEDULED FOR REMOVAL THIS WEEK

FINAL CROSSING FLANGEWAYS ARE BEING CLEARED

The historic Linden Branch of the Stockton Terminal & Eastern Railroad has been leased to the Recreational Railroad Coalition Inc.,(RRC). The 92 year old 10 mile long rail corridor which winds through the orchards of San Joaquin County has been cleared of trees, vegetation and the debris of 20 years of inactivity. It is now declared to be America’s first exclusively recreational railroad. Locomotives and boxcars will no longer be seen on this picturesque railroad branch. It will now host speeders, handcars, velocipedes other antique human powered track inspection vehicles.

RRC is a group of recreational railroaders who own and operate track inspection vehicles. It is incorporated in California as a Mutual Benefit, non-profit organization.

The at grade crossing at Front St. in Linden is the final barrier to access into the town. County road crews are working to cut and clean the flangeways which were paved over 15 years ago. It is expected the project will be finished on Wednesday which will signal the availability of the corridor for organized excursions, mentoring runs and special rail festivals.

NARCOA certified Excursion Coordinators are invited to consider the Linden Branch for access. RRC is a railroad set aside exclusive for recreational activities. Detail information can be obtained by e-mail from
