At Roseville, California. Anyone know if they prepared the journals properly for rolling? My contacts with the group involved indicated they did not think it was important.

Bob, the engine was moved yesterday. I took a good look at it about 5:30 and could find no evidence that they prepped anything. The guide was very rough, and one of the main rod grease caps couldn't even be turned. I could not see any grease around the brasses on the pony truck, nor on the right side main brasses. I guess they just didn't think it would be necessary considening it was only going to move about two engine lengths.

I had several communications with this group of model railroaders explaining the need for proper preparation of the running gear for movement. They replied that "those bearings were ruined long ago and we are only going to do a cosmetic restoration" and did not respond further. I tried to enlist the aid of a couple of knowledgable persons at Sacramento to advise them in person, but again received no response. Personally, I consider this a form of neglect and vandalism to the locomotive by all who were involved.
