I visited Jack last August. I had planned on helping him work on the equipment,which he was doing pretty much by himself. Soon after I was offered a new job and moved away,but as far as I know, all the equipment is still in Staunton Virginia at a place just west of the Staunton train station called the "bottoms" by the locals.
The two Canadian pacifics are still in great shape.The cab interiors are spotless. Jack took my friend Brian Love and I on a tour of the entire collection, and later spent about an hour chewing the fat in his nearby trailer. Watch your step if you go there. His house trailer is perched over a 30ft. deep concrecte walled pit. The front steps don't look too sturdy!
From what I gather from e-mails from friends in the area,Jack may soon be moving the entire collection to Stasburg Virginia, and operating up there. He had offered me a job maintaining the tracks, but was not ready to operate at that time.
As for contacting Jack, I believe he is in the phone directory for Staunton, otherwise you'll have to make the trip there in person.

I talked to Jack over spring break. All I know about the situtation with moving is that thereis still alot of politics involed with the grant.

as far as the engines are concerend the 1238 has it's trailer out from underneithe it to put roller bearings on it(I'll put pictures on my web site if any ones intersted)

I know he really wants to get running soon cause the 1286 only has a year left on its flues and the 1238 needs to have them done now.

I hope to go home this weekend and get some pictures on the actuall building of the new boxes if Jack or JB are there to let me in.

I currently have all of the 1238 and 1286's CPR boiler records in my possession for copying courtesy of former owner George Hart. 1286 was shopped at West Toronto in 1957, and 1238 was a zero-mileage engine when GMH bought them in 1964. They are terrific locomotives!

Very interesting that this engine was at West Toronto in 1957. I worked there then!
What was it in for?

One or both had ICC papers (rare) and that's why George made the choice. It was spare/protect for International Service at The SOO (2 miles).

I stand corrected. I took a second look at the records, and what I meant to say was Winnipeg. His D10h No. 1098 was shopped at West Toronto. My apologies!

That's better......1286 was a Western Lines engine, so I knew it wasn't at West Toronto!

But, 1098 was indeed there and in fact was the LAST steam engine to be shopped at West Toronto being out shopped June 29th 1957.
