I think this is one of the "American Flyer" passenger cars, originally from the Boston & Maine, later sold to the Long Island RR. Apparently still extant on LIRR. New England-built cars were so named because Gilbert & Co. produced S scale models of them years ago.

You sure know how to make a guy feel old! My collection of American flyer has a couple of sets of those cars in S scale as well as some of the A.C. Gilbert heavyweight cars.

Hope some of the originals get preserved. Boston and Maine had them, New
Haven of course and as you show the Long Island Railroad.

When we were at SSY on Friday there was one on the LI property (south) as you made your way from the tunnels to the wash rack. The paint scheme has been modified by the locals.

There are a few American Flyer cars preserved. The Railroad Museum of New England has 3 NH cars. The Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum has one that is either B&M or Bangor and Aroostock. Then there may be a few still on Long Island such as this car.

I believe the Orrville (Ohio) RR Historical Society has one also. I think it was at Trainfest this past summer. I'm not sure of it's pedigree, but I think it's the same car that ran some on the NS Steam Program back in the late 80's.
