Honda's entry in the Rose Parade

I found it amusing that some of the sound effects coming from the float, notably the "whistle," were from a diesel locomotive! But, it was a very beautifully done float and apparently very popular with the crowd. -- Ray

Not really visible in these images, but there is a 5 chime diesel horn mounted on top of the cab roof.

I watched them hook the various units into the one float early on the first, but since I was operating the Anteleope Valley float at the end of the parade I wasn't able to see it actually move. It appeard to me that there was operating valve gear and side rods. Did they actually look realistic during the parade?

I also noticed that there was throttle linkage on both sides of the boiler. 3751 doesn't really have linkage on both sides does it?

If you back the left side and forward the right side you can turn the engine much easier. ;-)

Any ideas why they chose that theme for their float?

That sure looks like one of those British-built Chinese 4-8-4's to me.

Could it be that Honda's HQ in Torrance CA is located within blocks of the former and still active ex-PE Torrance branch?
