There's a beautiful GMC stake body flatbed 1947 14,000lb capacity for sale on Ebay. I couldn't beleive it when I saw it. It is listed in Other Vehicles on Ebay Motors. I just purchased a Hi-Rail truck from this section of Ebay Motors and now this awesome truck shows up. Oh well thats how it goes. Hopefully someone who's a rail preservationist and likes antique vehicles will buy it. Let me know if someone on here buys it.

I like this story/ vehichle a lot, but a couple of issues:

I have a 1950 Chevy 3100-series. This body was pretty unchanged from 1948-'53, as was it GMX counterparts. The 46/47 GMC and Chevy's were very different in styling --- my guess is that this baby is more like a post-1950 GMC than a pre: looks a lot like a 1952 GMC my friend has.

C&O did use yellow paint (at least in our region) on their trucks, and usually purchased GM's, due to the high volume of business they did with them (hence the fewer number of ALCO's on C&O after dieselization, and why predecessor PM began to dieselize earlier than some) The fender color, however, isn't right.

If you could get this for under $2000, your doing well, though. Now if I can just convince my wife's dad we need a stake truck for hauling hay on their farm not to far from where this is at......

I agree. While this body style did debut in 1947, this truck is newer. There is no driver's side cowl vent, and there are vent windows.

I'm guessing '50, '51, or '52.

Looks like a good truck, though.

Happy bidding!

If somebody wants to contact the seller & ask for the serial # which should be on a metal tag on the left side door jamb you will be able to determine the year..............................................................Wooly

Man, DUH, I should have thought of that! One could also do a title search within the Ohio DMV to determine ownership as well (Michigan's is excellent for this -- not sure on Ohio's).

I'd like to point out that the car may actually be located in Northern Kentucky, across the Ohio from Cincinnati. The 859 phone number is a Kentucky area code. Either way, you could probably track the vehicle's ownership history from Kentucky's version of the DMV.

A 58 year old fleet truck with 68K miles? Seems a bit low... :-)

My experience of RR fleet trucks that trickle down to private ownership remind me of the old C.W. McCall lyric "I've seen better stuff in a junk yard, where did you ever find that truck?"

It could be 168,000 or 268,000. Back then odometers only went to 99,999. I would say this owner probably can't be 100% sure of the mileage.............................................................................Wooly
