Happy Easter everybody!

Since it's that time of year, I figured I would start a topic regarding religion, particularly church cars. My questions are: How many church cars are in existence and what is their status? A little background would be nice too.

God Bless,

Chapel cars are not quite finished, at least in Russia. "The Railway Magazine" from the UK, p. 15 reports that a train (did not specify how many cars) has been converted to be used by the Russian Orthodox church to perform church services in isolated towns which may not have churches.

The April issue of Guideposts magazine has an article on Page 23 about the Taylor family, Norman and Wilma who have researched several chapel cars that operated in the US and Canada. Norman has restored the chapel car "GRACE" at the American Baptist Assembly grounds in Green Lake, Wisconsin. There is a video about the cars also. I believe it is entitled, "Bound For Glory" it is a well-done and inspiring documentary. If you want their book, "This Train is Bound For Glory" (Judson Press, 1999) call(800)458-3766. The Taylors spent five years researching for the book.

The spring 1998 issue of Railroad History #178 published by the R&LHS,has a very good artical titled The Story of America's Chapel Cars by Wilma and Norman Taylor.
It is a great reference, well done and with many early photos.
Hope this helps.
