For anyone interested,

The Sparks Heritage Museum is trying to expand and hopes to take over
the old Davis/Abbay Hotel. The proposed Building use includes an
18'x38' room dedicated to a model railroad and diorama. Model
railroaders interested in participating in ta club and building a
permanent layout should consider supporting this effort by joining
the Sparks Heritage Museum or helping with events to raise funds to
acquire this property. The Sierra Model Railroad Club, Inc., already
exists as a framework to undertake this project. We need members, and
committees to help make the club and layout a reality.

Please email me for contact info, or contact the Sparks Heritage
Museum @ 775-355-1144.

So far, this is just in the planning stages, and there has been no
determination on what gauge the layout will be.

Thanks,

Dan Mitchell

The Sparks museum is just across from the visitors center display which includes SP narrow gauge 4-6-0 8 and a couple of standard gauge cars. The visitors center looks like an old depot, but I'm not sure if it really was. Just across the interstate is the former SP backshop, still used mostly for kitchen appliance and RV storage. A bit farther west from the museum are the former Nevada-California-Oregon depot and enginehouse. SP 8 was originally an NCO engine before moving south to the SP narrow gauge.
