A while back, I think on the old forum, someone posted that a company in Pennsylvania (Penn Tool and Machine?) could make new PCC resilient wheel components. Does anybody have the contact information? Also, anybody have a rough idea as to prices? Thanks.

Penn Machine makes not only PCC car wheels but also wheels for a number of light rail operations. Penn Machine is not a new wheel source, but has been making these wheels for several decades. I understand that it orginally made the wheels as a subcontractor for one of the "big name" firms.

IRM has used Penn Machine for a number of projects and their work is top notch. They can also handle new axles, new gears, and a variety of wheels and profiles; in some cases turning or machining them down from standard rr wheel blanks.

A 2002 order for four new wheel and axle sets including new bull gear for trolley, assembled and pressed just under $22,000. A real bargain.

Penn Machine made our streetcar wheels for #21 a few years ago. The price for 4 24 inch FRA/AAR certified wheels ran about $12,000. They did great work and the wheels are holding up very well.

Does Penn Machine do truck work, or just supply wheels, axles, etc.?

I believe Penn Machine is primarily a 'machine shop' facility, although they do the wheel and gear pressing assembly work on axles. Once you get the parts you need, I would recommend looking into Delaware Car Works for truck work in your part of the country. I believe one of their 'regular' customers is the New Orleans system.
