this came through the fax at a Colorado TV station today:

Colorado Historical Society, Railstar Corporation announce arrival of #12 Steam Engine at Georgetown Loop Historic Mining and Railroad Park

Georgetown Loop train will open to the public Memorial Day Weekend

DENVER - On Monday, March 21 the steam engine designated No.12 started its journey from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to its new home at the Georgetown Loop Historic Mining and Railroad Park. The No.12 is scheduled to arrive on Thursday. March 24 in Silver Plume where final restoration and preparation for the 2005-operating season will be completed.

The Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania built steam locomotive No. 12 on February 19, 1929. It was a steam powered locomotive. In the 1950s, it was the last steam engine still in use by the Kahului Railroad Company, hauling sugar cane, pineapples and other freight. When Kahului Railroad began using diesel locomotives, the No. 12 was used as a backup.

Engine No. 12 made its last run on May 24, 1966 and in 1967 was brought to the mainland. Eventually, Silverwood Theme Park in Athol, Idaho purchased the engine. Now No. 12 will make Colorado part of its history and return to service Memorial Day weekend as part of the Georgetown Loop Historic Mining and Railroad Park.

some more stuff I dug up on #12 just now..

"Also on the property and currently up for sale is former Kahului Railroad 2-6-2 No. 12, a 1928 Baldwin. It originally worked in Hawaii, but came to the mainland in 1967 and changed hands several times. It was brought to Silverwood and restored in 1988, but is not often used."

"Also Silverwood in Athol, Idaho has a very nice steam railroad using a 2-6-2 from the Eureka-Nevada (formerly Eureka & Palisade, same railroad as the #4 "Eureka" 1875 woodburner that tours narrow gauge railroads in Colorado) as well as another 2-6-2, #12 from Hawaii's Kahului Railroad. This locomotive is currently for sale for 250k and was the last steam locomotive used in Hawaii (until the Lahaina Kaanapali & Pacific opened up in the early 80s I believe)."

I understand that this locomotive has a new boiler.....as it has for several(many?) years. Prior to the rumor mill starting up regarding it's future at Georgetown I had been informed that the new boiler was built with a MAWP of only 125psi and that the shop that built it did not(does not?) hold an "R" stamp. I guess the "R" stamp thing would not be an issue if the loco is to operate on an FRA regulated line. Any truth to this? If so, why was it designed with such a low working pressure?

But, anywho.....Just curious.

I guess I'm just horribly confused about all this.
All the quipment left Georgetown, and now they're trying to build up the collection to run steam again?
So, why the musical chairs routine???

The former operator/consessionier removed its equipment from the Georgetown Loop opration. Now the new operator and the Colorado Historical Society has had to come up with a new set of equipment.

This matter has been covered both on this board and on the ng discussion board. But briefly, the former operator and the Historical Society were unwilling to come to agreement about extending the lease. And so the change.
