I've heard reports that the Edaville loop is being cut back to less than two miles to allow for a housing development. Also that another mile-long spur of the original line will remain as a branch for special moves. Have also heard that the remaining "original" Maine rolling stock is for sale. Can anyone out there confirm or debunk any or all of this?

The track that was removed I believe was around 1/2 mile if I recall. The portion along Meadow Street (original station site) at "Mt. Urann" was sold off to become residential housing, and I believe the track was or will be re-laid closer along the reservoir.

As for any equipment for sale, I haven't heard anything. The vintage Maine 2-foot stuff that remained was in use in January when I was there.

Pardon the ignorance, but is there a list of what historic Maine 2-foot material still remains at Edaville? I would think that the "new" Sandy River & Rangley Lakes, the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum, or the Wiscasset, Waterville, and Farmington Railway Museum could/ should try and get the rest of these pieces?

The original plan was to shorten the loop by about a mile or so to bypass the development that has taken over "Mt. Urann." Unfortunately, the Town of Carver came to the conclusion that the new ROW traversed enough wetlands that permitting, etc. would have to be granted by the Army Corps of Engineers - a very expensive proposition.

So, the plan is to substantially shorten the loop - before it gets out to the reservoir. One part of the severed trackage (from the start of the new loop to Mt. Urann) will remain in place for special runs. Long term plans may include adding a wye to turn the train. The other side - from Mt. Urann to where the new loop will end - is planned to be removed.

All of this is yet another example of why a tourist railroad must control its own ROW to avoid these sorts of problems.

As far as remaining 'Historic' equipment at Edaville, I have heard that the 2 or 3 cars that remain are up for sale. The new Edaville is essentially a theme park now, and there is no need for them to maintain any historic equipment. Plus, I understand that they are somehow incompatible with the rest of the new cars in the fleet. Honestly, I hope the remaining historic coaches, etc., end up at the WW+F - but time will tell on that.

I do not know exactly what historic equipment remains - other than the one coach that was used for the 'last runs'.

There are lots (10+) of standard gauge cabooses at Edaville. All painted in different liveries (that probably do not reflect their actual heritage.)

Ed,

The last report I had from Edaville several months ago only listed 7 standard gauge and 1 narrow gauge cabooses, all "probably for sale": B&M C41, 461, 462, 466, 484, MEC 644 as fake NH C644, 646, & SRRL 554 replica as Cranberry Belt.

Do you have any information on these ro the other cabooses still at Edaville?

Thanks, Roger

Pat Fahey, said "The last thing that I read was that when Edaville had the auction they were then put up for sale. As far as I know, they belong to the current owners."

Pat, I don't know if their ownership has changed or not, but J. N. Flagg was said to own them when they came to Edaville. Thanks, Roger
