Diesel SW9 being moved to the Ma & Pa group's isolated trackage at Muddy Creek Forks, PA, from the RRs of York list. The 82 was the last of the diesels that displaced steam on the Ma & Pa:

This afternoon around 1:30, M&P #82 was loaded onto the contraption
that will take it to Muddy Creek Forks. Folks at the "loading" said
it will be transported to MCF Tuesday with an ETD of 11 a.m. That's
if all the different agencies involved issue the proper over the
road permints. Should be interesting.

I don't have a digital camera so no still photo's. However,I did
shoot almost the entire loading on 8 mm video. Those of you
familiar with the Central Pennsylvania RR operating sessions can see
the video at the next operating session on May 21.

The "loading" was quite interesting. In addition to the almost 200'
long contraption, with 19-20 axles, that will haul the locomotive,
there were 5-6 other flat bed tractor trailers at the site. Two of
the flat beds will be used to transport #82's trucks.

Sorry about the term contraption but I just don't know what the
thing is called.

As of Tuesday night, the loco hasn't left Stonybrook, just east of York. Police/PPUC inspectors found one of the eighteen axles reportedly 1,800 pounds overweight, requiring a change in paperwork.

Movement is hoped for/planned for Wednesday May 4; if the paperwork isn't there in time, it may be delayed until sometime next week, account of crane availability. The massive rig is parked in a local industry's parking lot.

The loco was bought in Sept. 2003 for $8,000; the anticipated expenses for this movement are somewhere in the $40,000 range; and plans are for the loco to end up (eventually) with a newer/rebuilt prime mover (the current one, as the British say, is truly "clapped out"). Donations graciously accepted.......

The latest in an e-mail report received third-hand.........

"PennDOT has not yet granted a new permit for our move, and there is no
possibility that the move will occur this week.

Robbins Motor Transportation had another customer that was originally
scheduled to load on the 19-axle trailer on Wednesday. They were
pushed back to Thursday because we got a permit to move on Tuesday
instead of Monday as expected. The other customer was very anxious to
move this week and yesterday offered to pay all costs of unloading and
reloading No. 82 so that his move could be made on Friday.

After a great deal of discussion last night and this morning between
Joe Robbins, Roger Dick of Cooper Tools, and I, things have been worked
out in a fairly satisfactory way for us. Instead of unloading the
locomotive, Robbins disconnected the two halves of the 19-axle rig from
the beams on which the locomotive is supported. The locomotive,
sitting on the original blocking and beams as loaded on Saturday, was
left in the Cooper Tools parking lot. Pete Tinsley was at Cooper Tools
all afternoon to observe and protect our interests. I spoke with him
this evening, and he is satisfied nothing that was done caused harm to
No. 82.

Before this was done we asked and received written assurance from
Robbins that they or their customer will cover all costs and accept all
liability that might arise from disconnecting the trailer. Robbins
also gave written assurance that they will return the rig early next
week and will be prepared to make our move as soon as a permit is
issued by PennDOT."

Cautionary thoughts might be in order when one considers, for example, that Rockton & Rion crane (nothing personal, you understand)...............
