Can anyone tell me if the PRR built ballast hoppers and they turned into Penn Central then Conrail. Like the crane in the other posts is it worth it to save a Penn Central ballast Hopper from the 516 series or call the scrapper. Any photos and or history would be nice. If it wore PRR MW colors, then it might be worth will saving this obscure piece of equipment.

Dear Scott,

Where is this car now? Is it still owned by CR SAA/NS/CSX or another entity or individual? Do you have a number(s)?

Many thanks,
Tom Cornillie

A ballast hopper might possibly be more valuable as a ballast hopper. Provided it could be moved and or used.

Scott,

Given your location, this might strike a chord.

It would be very appropriate for either the P'burg museum or the budding Bethlehem Steel museum to feature a PRR ore car or two. These were certainly common sights on the Bel-Del and at The Steel, and to my knowledge none have entered preservation. Given their short wheelbase, one might consider a brace of three.

This is not a PRR ore car, I would love to find one to restore. If any one knows where there one is, please let me know.

Thanks,

Scott
