Equipped with steam pumps atop the boiler, for fighting fires in the Donner Pass snowsheds. The 2248 has seen much operation in recent years at Fort Worth, Texas. In the 1950s, it became SP's ceremonial old-time engine, equipped with a big balloon stack. It last ran in 1958 on an excursion, with Mogul 1744 and a diesel.

The 2252 was displayed for years at the fairgrounds in Roseville, but was recently moved downtown, apparently without bothering to polish and grease the journals first.
