According to the Ft Worth Star Telegram paper, the city of Grapevine Tx is negotiating to purchase the 2252 at Roseville, CA for service alongside the 2248 on the Tarantuala train. Any body in Cally know about it?

And why would they want another lightweight lap seam turn of the century commuter engine? I don't get it either. Nice little 2-8-0 is Kansas was available a couple years back would be much better.

Potentially a couple of reasons... like parts interchangability, family appearance, and general familiarity with the design.

Its also completely possible that this class of engine is more than adequate for their operation.

I for one would hate to see the 2252 leave Roseville, or even California for that matter, as it was an SP "fire train" locomotive, based out of Colfax if I remember correctly, and as such has very historic ties to the local. It was my understanding that the City of Roseville was very adamant about that locomotive staying put, so much so that even CSRM could not acquire it. Although I can appreciate Tarantula's wanting to have twins on their roster for various purposes, I am of the mind set that if there are very few examples of an historic locomotive in existence, and one is being "used", then another should be "saved". How many ex-SP T-1's are out there? Only two that I know of...
