Our List of Standardized Lubricants for Railway Equipment lists the following:

"Journal Oil or Car Oil:
"For lubricating plain type journal bearings, armature bearings and traction motor suspension bearings made of brass, bronze or with babbitted surfaces. Also used with spring loaded lubricator pads on diesel-electric locomotive traction motors. Can be used with cotton waste, wool waste and fabricated journal lubricator pads. Also used in waste lubricated motor bearing of air compressors, blower motors and dynamotors. Also used with oil lubricated center bearings. Can be used as a general light lubricant oil.

At the Canada Museum of Science & Technology we use an ESSO product on our equipment. Esso is Imperial Oil.

I can recommend Interlube "Journal Guard AYG". It is designed to maintain a protective coating on journals that remain static for long periods. We have never had any trouble with rusty, or hot journals, since we have been using it.
