Tennessee Valley Railroad's ex-CN 4-6-2 is on train #189 rolling in to Knoxville, Tenn. The lead unit is a Union Pacific SD70M. The 5288 looked bigger than I thought it would be.

5288 will be leaving Knoxville for Chattanooga in Train 131 within the hour. I am anxious to see how well the tie downs have stayed together!

Mark:

Hopefully there will be a photo of #5288 showing how she was shipped (or will you eventually have a photo on the TVRM website?) This would be helpful for others thinking of doing the same thing in the future.

Thanks!

Les, When 1925 went from Spencer to Sacramento and back two years ago, I recall there being 32 chains, two steel braces supports and six to eight well placed steel chocks to keep her riding like a Pullman on HTTX 97425, a 70-ton flatcar. I have some detailed photos of this spider's web of chains if you'd like to see them. And if anybody sees HTTX 97425, please stencil it "SHAY Sled" and send it to NCTM. We REALLY shouldda kept that car!

I'd like to keep this QTTX 130501 too! I used a combination of steel and chains to tie the 5288 down. I also made sure I had buy in's from both the CP and NS's open top loading guys ahead of time. That sure made the inspection go extremely well. I have the tie down plans drawn in Autocad for future use if anyone would ever like to see how we did it. We should have plenty of photos too.

By the way Jim, I hear the F7 has ended up in Linwood Yard. If you see a white cab unit over your way, that's it. Wanna swap it for the 6133????

Dang! I told 'em to send the steam engine this way!

Let me know when it goes out...might just pass through Statesville on the way. Hmm, I'd better pass on the trade--the diesel dept. head is going on vacation tomorrow and I want him to have fun, not worry about where we've hidden his green weenie.

Anybody else heard a rumor about a steam locomotive on a flatcar diverted over the Hiawassee Loops into GA?

I wouldn't send anything over the loop right now, based on the reported condition of the right of way.

Unfortunately as Mark knows, the 131 got held for more fill out and lack of power at 3PM, so it didn't get called till 7:00PM. Last report to me from the chief's office was rolling just west of Southern station headed by West End Two Track and across the K&A. That was as of 20 minutes ago. 5288 will be in her new hometown before dawn.

This has been a most interesting journey home, diverted dismal and all.

Just keep it as a consolation prize and don't worry about the 6133. The 4061 will have to wait in line behind the CofGA 109, which, IMO, is probably the most appealing dismal locomotive on the property.
