 Post subject: The Pacific has Landed

Locomotive 5288 was unloaded this afternoon at her new home. Everything went extremely smooth. I am so glad this is now over, is it summertime yet?

PS - It'll take a BIG lottery win to get the 5288 out of the South! BIG enough to replace the 5288 with full scale, operational replica of the 1401!!!

I'd settle for a trade... 290, the ACL engine in Jax, a nice 4-8-2 of USRA variety... Mark, there are many possibilities, especially with creative use of torch and welder!

Congrats on getting the Pacific! Since 290 and 750 are out, its nice that there is a possibility one pacific will be running in the south. Is 5288 out where she can be seen, or did she go straight to the shop. I am thinking of driving up from Atlanta on Monday to ride the train and see her before she goes in for work. Looking forward to seeing her.

This is exciting stuff for a SR steam fan like myself. I would like to see more projects like this in the future.How about one of the five Frisco 4-8-2s rebuilt as a Southern TS class or maybe even for the L&N or NC&STL.

Yeah, Johnny i've always thought about one of the 1500s as a reasonable considering what Mountains are left in the US as a SR Ts, there were a few 4-8-2's with 12 wheel tenders, the only major difference would be the air tanks and the second scullin driver. However, the 1501 in Rolla, Missouri as seen below from a photo from 1522's official website is from the original Baldwin series and has the air tanks in the intended location, underneath the running boards. With a few minor details, converting the engine to a coal burner and a coat of Virginia or Sylvan Green paint, well i better stop foaming now....:)

Gotta wonder if any of those sweet light pacifics almost identical to 750 that Mitsubishi built for China in the 1950's might be available?

I've been away from interchange for a little while, so I've been out of the loop. I've scrolled back, but can't find the right posting. What are the plans for this loco? What kinda shape is she in?

For now, she is at East Chattanooga in front of the shop. WE still have to put the valve ladders back on and couple the tender to the locomotive so it will be easier to move (couplers on both ends that way...).
