Tom:As Linn noted, we we're working off a restoration of an undocumented restoration. Yet, the material still "talks". One example of this is the wreck damage that we found. While not extensive or fatal to the frame and running gear, it was evident that the car had suffered a serious derailment. It appears that a car or locomotive coupled to 814/105's "B" end left the rails first, wrenching the draft gear pocket out of alignment. The "B" truck then swung around striking and wedging in the frame. The belly of the frame then appeared to have struck something substantial on the roadway, such as an abutment or whatnot."B" truck was in much better shape mechanically than "A" truck, which indicates a post-wreck rebuild. We were able to cut out the pieces of the "B" frame coupler pocket that were damaged, welding in new steel for the coupler pocket. All of this will be written up, since we took copious notes and photographs during the disassembly/blue-printing process. And that is just one example ...All in all, it was a fascinating rebuild.

I saw this car last week and the pictures, great as they are, hardly do the work justice! I was shocked to learn that the stained window glass is the original material! How about that?!
