Post subject: Surviving Railway Express Agency Railroad Equipment?
PostPosted: Sun Jun 12, 2005 11:18 pm

Hello all, I am interested in compiling a rough list of surviving equipment that was owned by the Railway Express Agency. For the purposes of this list I am NOT interested in railroad owned baggage cars or other cars that carred Railway Express Agency sublettering or that carried Railway Express traffic. So far I am only aware of three refrigerator cars, Two C. 1957 cars one displayed at the Illinois Railway Musuem (wearing US Department of Transportation paint) and one at the B&O railroad museum in Baltimore wearing REA Express paint that appears to have been applied since the car left revenue service. There is also a refrigerator converted from a troop sleeper in Milwaukee that wears its original REA Express paint. Many thanks,Tom Cornillie

Old Smoky Railway Museum in Knoxville owns a Pullman built PV (Seminole) that was at one time owned by the American Railway Express Agency, it is said to be the only buisness car they ever owned.

The REX car located on a siding of the Everett RR in East Freedom, PA is in its origional paint. It is an Ice Bunker type reefer. It is the property of the Horseshoecurve Chapter NRHS. It is missing its brake rigging at this time, however all the parts are inside the car to put it back on. It is slated for cosmetic restoration by the Chapter sometime this year. It will be moved to the yard of the Railroaders Memorial Museum when the restoration is complete and space is available. That will hopefully be this fall after the Turntable is installed. For further info on the car I would refer you to the chapter website. It is a very long url that I cannot remember off the top of my head. If you do a Google search for Horseshoe Curve Chapter NRHS, you should find it. There may be a link to the chapter site from the museum site railroadcity.com.Andy

I received a tip that the Dennison Railroad Museum has two Railway Express cars - on their website they are only listed as "Two Railway Express Agency Box Cars" Does any here have numbers and/or know of recent photos that are on the web? Many thanks,Tom Cornilliehttp://www.dennisondepot.org/DD_LST.html
