A somewhat important offering, with the last remaining E-6 unit being made available. Hopefully this unit will find a benefactor that can provide a good home, whether it ever operates again or not. With some of the recent discussions of the future of preservation, this is one of the few, ever-increasing rare "antiques" available. The ad mentions other "slant-nose" units. To my knowledge, other than this RI E-6, the only other two units I know of are the E-5 at IRM (CB&Q), and the unit formerly owned by Glenn Monhart, which if memory serves, was an E-6 painted in ACL colors ? Are these the only 3 remaining ??

The third and often overlooked third slant-nosed E-Unit is former L&N 770. Originally built in 1942 as 450B for the L&N, the 770 was the first diesel passenger locomotive on the L&N. It was retired in the late 1960s, stripped of most parts, and the shell is now owned by the Kentucky Railway Museum. It isn't on public display. From the exterior, it looks complete, but only has one prime mover block, and no auxiliary equipment.

Could anyone tell me the status of B&O EA #51 in Baltimore? Is it mostly complete or is it more of a shell like the L&N unit?

B&O EA #51 is intact except for the generators. Unfortunately years of outdoor neglect have left the Winton prime movers cracked and non-restorable for operation. The unit is currently in the car shop which will open to visitors in September.
