Ted Miles; My wife and I are still planning on visiting you this year; when we do, I would like to check out the two ferries in Antioch mentioned in the thread as well as the Maritime National Historic Park. I have already printed out a map to the shore by the Solano.A recent contact has sent me recent pictures of most of the former Staten Island ferries; it would be nice to add some more "west coast" ferries to the mix.In the Trainorders thread, do you know what ferry is the "'San Diego' Auto Ferry Tied Up in Horsehoe Bend on the Sacramento River" that is mentioned by one poster? It didn't seem to match any of the ones I have listed. Also, I found the following picture on an industrial archeology website:ImageAny idea which one it is? It is located between Martinez and Berkeley, CA.-James Hefner Hebrews 10:20a Surviving World Steam Project

Bob,You will not be suprised to ehar that I have been aboard the ferry. It is a most interesting relic. The boat has the same history as the SF Maritime Park's Eureka; but was scrapped in 1922 instead of being rebuilt as the other ferry was.The hull is seperate from the superstructure with the upper decks supported by steel i-beams underneath. All and I do mean all machinery is gone from the hull but the upper deck still has the stained glass windows and a lot of interesting details.Ted Miles

James,Sorry but the picture did not come through. Why don't you try my direct e-mail.There is no machinery aboard or under the Sausalito; you can walk on the new floor that the club memjbers put inside the paddle boxes.Ted Miles
