Canmore Mines #4 is still powered by a diesel CAT engine. It is operational and the back up for our two steam locomotives at the park. It can only pull two of our three coaches- any more and the tranny goes:)In the past "the goat" was used as a switcher around the park, however a couple of years ago the park aquired a little diesel switcher that was much less cumbersome. "The Goat" is used every so often for movies that come to shoot here - most notably Johnson County Wars with Tom Berenger. Currently #4 is part of a joint Fundraiser between the C.P. Police and the Calgary Police. The idea is to have 15 person teams pull the goat a pre determined length the fastest team winning. All money raised will go to the special olympics. The event is scheduled for September 23, 2005, so recently 15 of Calgary's finest came to the park to see if it could actually be done. It took some work however they were successful. He found out his Father and Grandfather worked on #4 in Canmore shunting coal.
