Greetings from Boston!I rode what has to be one of the more unique transit operations today, MBTA's Mattapan-Ashmont high speed line. Where else can you ride in World War II-vintage air-electric PCC cars in regular service? The line is a neat way to experience what a suburban transit line was like in most cities fifty years ago. Photos and a full trip report to follow later. Follow that up with a trip to the Charlestown Navy Yard, and Fenway Park, and you have a pretty full day checking out the past. Tomorrow-Seashore

Hoping that you see this when you go to Seashore Trolley Museum tomorrow. I am a member and therre is a lot to see. By all means go visit the townhouse Shop and take a look of the cleveland 1227. It is a now nearly restored street car that came to STM as a stripped car body.The Shop has not only restored it; but back dated it as wellEnjoy!Ted Miles

Greetings;Glad to hear the MBTA is keeping those old air electrics on the road. Out here on the west coast (San Francisco), one can ride a variety of PCC cars and other vintage cars, just as in Boston, in thier natural habitate.Cheers- Karl J.

Philadelphia is still running PCCs on their Rt. 15 line, although heavily refurbished with new electricals.I can't rule out a return to Baltimore streets someday........ more in a brief yet to be written.

I thought the 15's return to streetcar service died, and the route was still bus. Im saw a bunch of the Brookville-rebuilt PCCs in the Woodland yard when I was up there a few weeks ago, but none were in service. AFAIK they aren't even running the Chestnut Hill trolley any more. Pity, that was a nice, scenic line through a pretty neighborhood.However, the subway-surface lines are still going strong and are still traditional trolley lines with poles on the cars instead of pantographs. I rode the 11 and 13 cars while I was in Philly -- we even lost the pole once. The cars may be 1981 Japanese things, but West Philly still has some neat old-time streetcar operations.
