With apologies to trainorders and Chrishttp://www.katu.com/stories/78940.html By Elaine Murphy and KATU Web Staff ROY, Ore. - Scrap metal has become a hot commodity these days, especially since those involved with drugs have figured out they can make money by selling it. In the rural community of Roy, an antique rail car was stripped of more than $8,000 worth of scrap metal. "I'm a little ticked off about the whole thing," says Ed Immel from the Northwest Rail Museum, which owns four antique rail cars. The rail cars are sitting on a side track in tiny Roy, Oregon, only 200 feet from the nearest home. One of the rail cars was vandalized. The metal trim was pulled from the windows and the pipes for the heating system were cut and taken away. "They're in here for the scrap and the metal and they ruin something that we'd worked on," says Immel. Immel figures the thieves came in mid-July. They left a hacksaw they had used to cut through the pipes, which were originals. Detectives hope they can lift a print to help them track down the culprits, but they need the help of scrap metal recyclers and people with sharp eyes to help them crack the case. This is more than a simple theft for the non-profit museum, which uses the rail car to raise money for their budget. "We use it on excursions and that's how we made some money in order to pay for the cars," says Immel. Now, thousands of dollars worth of metal is gone and the rail museum has to try to replace irreplaceable parts.

As if this is anything new...............[...... says someone who expended much sweat and energy helping to replace all the former copper air brake piping on a former B&O E8 cut off the loco while in unprotected storage within walking distance of a scrap yard in southwest Baltimore............. and also shoveled untold numbers of crack vials and needles out of the nose of said unit, and saw the remains of fires ignited to burn off the insulation from wires yanked out of same unit............]

Someone last year broke into our dining car and ripped it up pretty bad in order to steal the copper pipe that ran through the baseboard heat. They tore the wall up and the stainless steel cover off the radiator. A big mess!!Alot of work tearing it up for a piece of copper pipe.

and these morons could go out and find honest work, and not work as hard as they did ripping up that pipe.
