We interupt applause for the announcement for the O. Winston Link museum dedicated to the glory of the N&W for something a little more green (and gold). Enjoy, Jim

Delighted to read about it. Now, when you guys can get 542 back on the road there will be two SR 2-8-0's running in the Tarheel State. Good Luck!

Ok, Jim, time for y'all to get busy. Greg is working on his SR 2-8-0, we're working on our SR 2-8-0, y'all need to start on yours. Then we can have our own Steam Fest, especially if the 4501 could attend! An all Southern Railroad Steam Fest! Is there anywhere else you could have four steamers from the same railroad all under steam at the same time????

PS - Maybe I should add the 349 too, that would make five Southern steamers....

If 349 qualifies, how about 223? Already discussing doubleheading 223 nd CV 21 someday. Maybe we can have a 2-8-0 convention in the southeast.

Uhh, Mark, I can think of two places that do it every day - the Cumbres & Toltec (4 D&RGW 2-8-2s) and the Durango & Silverton (6 at current count).

Now, will someone repatriate the 385 to Dillsboro where it can get the attention it deserves?

Now you're getting technical since Mark didn't say "in the same place." What about all those SP engines out there?

And while not a railroad, but a railway, the Mount Washington Cog Railway typically has
5 or 6 locomotives under steam.

This will answer Mark's challenge above: I'd say one day we should get all three active SR 2-8-0s out on the Murphy Branch and let's do it like the Goose used to going up Red Marble Gap near Topton--2 of them up front and one in the back!

Of course, we'll have to have three tries at it--so each can lead, be helper and serve as pusher!

Sounds like a winner to me Jim, lets make sure they look somewhat historically accurate for the period! (You know, freight scheme, 1940's era probably) That sounds good to me. Now if we could only get NS to be more steam friendly and let us steam down there on our own power!(Man, I am losing my mind or something). Ah, there was such a time when someone could do that......

Actually, Gymbeaux, there are eight possible combinations mathematically, so we'd have to make eight runs ;-)

And don't focus so much on Red Marble Gap - my sights are set on Balsam Mountain (don't let pesky little things like ownership get in the way of your dreaming . . . ;-)
