Hi,Does anyone know what is happening to the current Reader Railroad? Here is a site my brother found that mentions the equipment is slowly being sold off. Is this true? http://www.trainweb.org/dbrr/cs.html/AR ... 2.htmlAlso, What's going on at Eureka Springs? I don't ever hear much mention of the Eureka Springs and North Arkansas RR. Are they still running? Stuart

The Reader is inactive and has been for some time, after the FRA took exception to their track condition. I am not aware of any equipment being offered for sale. Most of what is there is owned or controlled by Richard Grigsby, who also owns two of the steam locomotives at Eureka Springs. I visited with some folks associated with the Reader about two months ago and there was no indication of any change in the status quo at that time. The Eureka Springs & North Arkansas is for sale. It is a neat little operation, completely isolated from any rail connection, with an interesting collection of vintage equipment. Whether anyone will come along to buy out the Dortch family and keep the railroad intact remains to be seen. The railroad has not run steam for a number of years and relies on an SW-1.Alan Maples

Some very interesting photos there. Unfortunately somewhat typical of other dreams that have died. Anyone know the history of that railbus? I presume from one of the many Arkansas shortlines. Is that turntable the one from the MC&SA in Texas?

No, we aren't selling off anything "piece by piece." In fact, we are in the process of building a vintage style rail bus, sort of a "trotting possum" instead of a galloping goose. The sawmill has been used and recently fired up, adn recently molding machines capable doing historic custom millwork. The railbus at Reader is owned by an individual, and is from the Columbus and Greenville. Yep, that is the former MC&SA table. Our #4 2-6-2 is in storage in North Dardanelle, after having been used in "O Brother where art thou?" and short lease in Florida. It has been under FRA inspection for over ten years now, even though it is now out of service. You can expect Reader to reappear, though not in its current incarnation. Its stuff like this, put out by nerd foamers who know not whats happening (nor the experience of dating the opposite, I might add) that makes railfan a curse word in my dictionary.Jim Templin, Reader CMO

Hi Jim,Thanks for the info. When will the #4 be operational? At one time a few friends and I thought about inquiring about maybe seeing about running for a day on a weekend when we had time, but that was a year or so ago. We were all suffering from steam withdrawl and of course, I haven't even had the chance to be in the cab of a stem locomotive when one is running. One of these days I hope to get over that way and see the Reader and Eureka Springs and go to the D&R again.Stuart
