Great thread going on scrapyard archaeology. Is there a site which has photographs of various classes of locomotives sitting, waiting for the end? A few years ago, somebody posted an April Fool's picture of a NYC Hudson stripped and sitting alone, waiting for the torch. Anyone know where that came from, or if I can see it again?

Another thought regards the contract that Pielet Bros. had with EMD, maintaining that all traded in locomotives must be reduced to scrap, regardless to "historical" value or preservation entreaties. This explains why the last E-L PA-1 and TM could not be saved for posterity.

He's got a ton of pictures from many eras broken down, road by road. There are quite a few pictures of locomotives in deadlines waiting for scrapping or in various stages. Just go through the lists and look at the dates. If the pictures are around 1960 give or take, it may very well be a scrap photo. If you get tired looking, here are some I've found there. well, no I'm curious. One of those pictures shows NKP berkshire #804. From what i previously knew, the NKP only built 80 berks numbered 700-779. #804 looks slightly different than the others, most notably the driving wheels (all the other locos had spoked wheels). Does anyone know the history of this engine and whether it was originally built for the Nickel Plate?

The 800 series 2-8-4s which the NKP wound-up with were W&LE engines. They received them through the merger.
