Excursion with Pere Marquette 1225 less than a month away...

The Bluewater Michigan Chapter NRHS and the Steam Railroading Institute are operating a steam trip with the Pere Marquette 1225 from Kawkawlin (near Bay City), MI to Grayling, MI on October 15-16. The trips will operate over a scenic ex-NYC branch now operated by Lake State Railroad. The train will be 21 cars and 700+ passengers each day. The 1225 will face the right way both northbound and southbound. Cars will include ex-CN, CP, Southern, RF&P, GT, and Seaboard. All open vestibules.Tickets for Saturday are basically sold out, but tickets are still available for Sunday - please purchase a ticket and support the two groups running these trips. Don't be surprised if you run into a few of us fellow posters helping out where we can. Any weekend where you can work with steam is a GOOD weekend; one where you help fellow people with a Lima Berk PLUS on trackage that hasn't seen steam in 50+ years is just that much better!TJG

As a 31 year old former locomotive fireman, I'm ashamed to say that I've never seen a Lima Berk in steam. My ticket for the Oct 15th run will correct that travesty, looking forward to the trip and meeting a few fellow posters.Dave Crosby

Dave:Prepare to be impressed. Not as impressed as you would be, standing at Moscow and absorbing all the sensory inputs from your "local" Lima Berk climbing east from Nay Aug, but close. Maybe again, someday.......

For those coming to Michigan for this trip, please be aware -- as always is the case this time of year -- that there is major construction on many of our expressways this year including US23 south of Flint.Also, the Little River Railroad should be running that Sunday and this is a good opportunity to see /ride behind two steam engines on real railroads in Michigan in one weekend and that hasn't happened since roughly 1990 when the 1218 ran a trip out of Allen Park.Bob H

Bob, thanks for the tip on the road work...Ah yes the 110, I've been planning on making a stop by there. I myself might skip chasing the 1225 on Sunday, since its still lettered "Polar Express" anyway and then head down to Coldwater and support the Little River by buying a ticket and raiding the gift shop.Dave Crosby
