Ward Kimball's "Chloe", the former WSCo "Pokaa", is destined for the Orange Empire Railway Museum sometime in the future. It is still occasionally operated by the Kimball family and their friends.The locomotive was restyled years ago for Ward Kimball to look like a 1880's locomotive.For more information and a 1997 photo follow this link:OERM 3-foot Narrow Gauge Collection

According to Steamlocomotove.info, Wahiawa is in storage as part of the Grove Farm collection near Puhi on Kauai. I visited this operation a few years ago and may have a photo of the engine.Wesley

We visited the Grove Farm plantation in 2002. They had three Baldwin 0-6-2Ts and one smaller (possibly 0-4-2T ?) engine, of German manufacture.The German engine, and two of the three Baldwins were operable, according to one of the caretakers. I have a picture of the builders plate of BLW 58557, which was, I believe, one of the operable engines. I didn't record any of the other serial numbers. Also, my recollection is that only the German engine had a name - "Kaipu"; the Baldwins had only road numbers (not certain about this, though).JR

The German locomotive is "Paulo"; the three Baldwins are "Kaipu", "Wainiha", and "Wahiawa". As of two years ago, the latter was not operable.

Wahiawa has yet to be restored. Because Wahiawa and Wainiha are virtually identical, the Fowler steam plough is next in line of the steam equipment. The new track on the Lihue Plantation r-o-w is the current priority. The Fowler needs a new boiler. While we were restoring Kaipu, we popped the water tank off Wahiawa one morning to check the boiler exterior and found it to be uniformly mediocre. Kaipu was sidelined by a toasted firebox in 1953 so Grove Farm bought Wahiawa from Lihue Plantation. Wahiawa was condemned for a bad firebox in 1956 so GF bought Wainiha from LP for just the 1957 season. Wainiha got a new boiler in 1941 and was the easiest and first to be put back into steam.Paulo, an 1887 Hohenzollern mechanical sleaze bucket, was put on display in Koloa in 1929 and is a 2-4-0T.Claus on Maui is in cocooned storage except for an annual one day display, usually in August. County politics held up construction of the intended display building until the Hawaii economy tanked in 1991 and there was no money then to build a suitable display. PHOTOS

Its current status is unknown, but believed to be on the Woodland Hills CA area?? She is also the oldest Hawaiian Survivor built in 1879!PMCo "Lahaina" 0-4-2RT (BLW cn 6397) Unique here is the gauge was 303/4 on the PMCo Ry, she was sold in 1952 and belonged to Robert Day and then HW Brunskill both of southern California. Reports are that she was damaged in a BelAir fire in 1961. Current status and whereabouts are ???PMCo "Launiopoko" (CALIF) 0-4-2 (BLW cn 16390) Also a PMCo locomotive and same post Hawaii owners.... Unknown status??Any info on these three, also also if the 24" 0-4-2T "Waiahole" is still located on Lanai?? You mean to tell me there is a Fowler ploughing engine in Hawaii?!?! Thanks for sharing the pic of HRy5! Her and the "Olomana" are the two east coast Hawaiian Locomotives! There is also one operating in Japan that formerly ran at Raoring Camp (Felton CA).I am working on a small book (hopefully) project, and documenting the 28 Surviving Hawaiin Plantation Locomotives. As it progresses, I share its progress on the board. Any updates or news on these locomotives is greatly approeciated.
