Hi Bob,That is a nice picture of that particular coaling tower. In its heyday it could coal two steam locos at the same time and I think it had the ability to add water to the tenders at the same time because there was a great deal of Piping in it too. I will go back and check that part out though.Also even though the track is gone from under the tower there is still live rail on both sides of it. The picture doesn't show it but just to the right and behind the tower there is a Trestle that crosses the Jackson River. The rail has been removed from the trestle now. Clifton Forge had a tremendous amount of railroading history. It was one of the main shops for the C&O Steam era. It was even called home to the giant Allegheny articulated Steam Locos one of which resides in the B&O Museum in Baltimore MD. A bit futhure to the west (15 Miles) is where the C&O #701 resides in a park in Covington VA.Andrew Martin
