A post on Trainorders reports 2100 was under steam and moving around a little Saturday. It was unknown when she would run up the hill for the first time.John Bohon

Just out of curiosity what shape is the track in going up to the Fred Wye? I assume that there are no excepted sections otherwise they could not run passenger movements. It would be sad to see that engine restricted to 15 mph. Also does $50 for a coach seat seem a bit steep or am I out of touch with what tourist RR's charge these days for a comparable 3-hour tour?Chris Allan

I was glad to see this engine in St Thomas just before it was shipped out. I was wondering why I saw it with the stoker placed next to the engine, then when I stepped out back and saw the tender set up for oil, it answered my question.

When I worked for the Milwaukee Road years ago I think the grade was over 3 1/2% on that line not far out of Tacoma .Were the Reading 2100's crown sheet and steam space to the top of wrapper designed for that steep a grade?

Maximum grade on the Reading was 3.3% on the Frackville branch. I'm not certain a T-1 ever ran up there, but the employee timetable showed a tonnage limit for them of 600 tons. Their boilers came from I-10 consolidations, which did venture onto the Frackville branch from time to time, so it would follow that the boiler design would permit operation on that steep a grade.

Sure, but for $400 you get to ride where few have...similar to a cab ride. $50 should include a bit more than just a coach seat in which to plant yourself. Is lunch included? Entertainment? Access to _______?Erich
