Of course, there are many early/rare anthracite road diesels left unpreserved... CNJ SW-1 (waiting, waiting) LNE S-2 (no LNE diesels preserved) O&W NW-2 (one is sort of "saved") LV SW-1 LV U23B (the "last" anthracite road units pre-Conrail) Where are these locomotives?

This website has a C. 2003 photo of the unit, nee-L&NE S-2 611. http://forums.railfan.net/forums.cgi?bo ... 453370This website states that the unit is currently owned by Archer Daniels Midlandhttp://www.thedieselshop.us/L&NE.HTMLThis can be both a good and bad thing - as ADM does own many Alcos, however they also have many outiffted with remote control gear. For current information, I suggest asking at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LocoNotes/There is also rumored to be one or more RS-2 units to be owned by Altos-Hornos SA of Mexico. However, I have also previously heard that these were former Elgin Joliet and Eastern units. http://forums.railfan.net/forums.cgi?board=LNE;action=display;num=1042398838In any case, if a group or individual is serious about the preservation of the S-2 611 - it is a good idea to start organizing support, investigating places to house the unit, laying out fundraising plans now, and contact the locomotive's current owner NOW. If there is no plan to preserve the unit and the current owner is not aware of its importance or interest in it - than you can be certain that it will simply become X tons of scrap metal when it is retired.Tom Cornillie

NYO&W- There at least 3 NW2s that survive. One is on NYS&W in a similiar NYO&W scheme. I think there's 3 44 tonners that survive, including one in a museum in GA or SC repainted to its original maroon scheme.DL&W- Various SWs right? I think there's at least one GP7, but it might have been altered. One RS-3, DeWitt, on the Housatonic.J

Only four LV diesels can be considered offically preserved.RS3 211C420 408C420 414and U23B #? (not yet moved to Sayre, but still offically "saved"..the number is still unknown, but its either 501 or 511)8 LV diesels are currently stored and non operating..excellent preservation canidates:EMD SW1 112EMD SW1 119Alco S2 150Alco S2 151EMD SW8 267EMD GP38AC 310EMD GP38AC 312EMD GP38AC 313one of the U23B's at RMDI has been donated to the Sayre Historical Society..the other is probably too far gone.many other surviving LV diesels, such as the C420's operating with the A&M, the remaining U23B's, and all 10 of the GP38-2's operating with CP, cant operate forever..they will have to be retired sometime.Just as the three GP38AC's were recently retired by NS.keep your eyes open! ;)Lehigh Valley Survivors:http://www.frontiernet.net/~scottychaos/LVRR_locomotives.htmlScot
