I drove to Richland, NJ on the 17th to ride the train to Tuckahoe. When I got there at 12:45 pm, the train was already there - the train was due out at 1:30 pm and I didn't expect the train to be there that early. What happened was that the diesel locomotive had run out of oil. An employee had driven someplace to get some oil and put it into the engine. After that was done, it still didn't help. Another diesel locomotive was called for and eventually showed up. The 1:30 pm train finally left at 3:00 pm (or maybe it was really the earlier train). We made it about 3/4 of the way to Tuckahoe and the rescue diesel locomotive died. Schoolbuses were called for and finally showed up. Anyone who had a ticket was given a full refund (the ticket was only $10). I guess these old diesels don't work too well when they have been sitting for a week in the cold. I plan to return in March when they start up again and try to ride the entire trip.
