I'm having a problem viewing the photos in the briefs section and I wonder if anyone else is having a similar problem.

None of the photos in any of the briefs articles show up when I view the article. The photo caption is the only thing that shows and there the caption is kind of elongated down the middle of where the photo should be showing. Not even the little box with the red "x" in the middle shows up. I've played with my IE settings and the settings in my firewall (Zone Alarm Pro) and anti-virus (Norton) programs and that doesn't solve the problem. I'm no whiz at 'puter stuff so I don't know what else to do.

Unexplainedly, the photos do show up in most of the articles in the "articles" section altho even there a couple I checked the photos didn't show up.

I'm stumped. If anyone can help me out here I would appreciate it.

Interesting that I have noted the same symptoms both before and after the recent archiving and upgrades to the site. Almost no briefs photos except for the captions in italics, and SOME articles with photos loading, some not.

Even more curious I also have Zone Alarm Pro and Norton on my machine! One difference is that I generally do not come here through Explorer, but through Netscape so I do not think it is browser settings. If someone gets you working again, please let me know the secret fix.

Temporary shutting down my firewall (I use EZ Firewall, so I don't think it is brand specific) solves the problem for me; I haven't found a permenent solution yet. I have played with my firewall settings to no avail.

That was a good idea. I tried it and it worked. I can see! I can see!

Actually I'm paranoid about all of this so what I did do was to activate the windows firewall and then deactivate my ZoneAlarm Pro firewall program. It's cumbersome but it worked!

I still don't know why ZoneAlarm doesn't allow me to see those photos in the briefs and some of them in the articles section like I used to (using the same firewall program) up until a few weeks ago.

Can you give me links to two files, one where the pictures show, and one where they don't.

I can't think of any reason why this should be, but I can go look at the code, and the html it generates to see if there are any noticeable differences.

OK, I looked in both the briefs section and the articles section. here's what I came up with.

From July 2005 until today, here are the only briefs where the photos show:
11-10, Erie Camp Car...
10-18, Book Review...
9/1, Gershaw recycling...
7-25, Request for...
Interestingly, in the 7-25 brief, one photo does show up and the second one, builders photo of #108 doesn't.

In the articles here are the ones where the photos appear.
9-5, Visiting the past...
8-15, Three locomotives...
7-4, Rockhill Trolley Museum...
9-1-04, Welshpool & Llanfair,
In the 9-1-04 brief, the 7th photo down shows up, as does the 13th & 14th photo. None of the others show.

In all cases there are no markers showing to indicate a photo should be there and the captions appear elongated as if the margins are set too wide on each side of the caption.

I hope that helps you sort this out altho I wouldn't get too worked up about it. As I mentioned previously, I simply switch to the windows firewall and can see the photos just fine.

The links are the same. Here is what I do:

Open a Brief. Pictures do not appear.

Shut down firewall

Hit reload button. Pictures now appear

I use Netscape version 6; I need to check, but I think IE does the same thing. It is not just the Briefs; another forum I frequently visited that allows you to attach photographes does the same thing. Here is a link to a typical message; in case the others want to try it. Notice the box at the bottom for attached pictures:

Can those of you with the firewall/photo issue see the photo in the Cog railway brief?

I found a very specific difference in the HTML between the visible photos and the invisible ones. Like to confirm that's the true cause, although if so I don't understand what causes the cause to cause the problem.

I predict you won't be able to see it. And, if not, I can fix it so you can (without changing your firewall settings).

Regardless, please let me know.
