 Post subject: Haapamaki scrapyard

Not sure of the date of this photo, but it is the scrapyard in Finland where the unsaved locomotives of the state railway were (are?) stored. Numerous locomotives from their strategic reserve have been saved, and some operate, but still such scenes are sad.

Incidently, one of these 2-8-0s made it to the US in the 1950s, and is displayed in Oregon:

Glad to see that the Junction City collection seems to be under cover and tended. Maybe 15 years ago a distant Finnish relative from that territory sent me a local news clipping in which the Finnish consul in Oregon expressed displeasure at the neglect of this donated locomotive, and a picture showed it looking very bleak indeed. Maybe the consul's complaint had some effect, and induced the responsible parties to show some sisu.
