Gerald, Steve, and anyone else interested:

Follow the link to our website, where it shows many photos and some info on the move of the trade between the MTM and IRM back in 2001.

http://www.michigantransitmuseum.org/so ... shore.html

Of note, this trade took place on Selfridge Air Nat'l Guard Base a few short days before 9/11 happened!!! Much changed at that point, and we were fortuntate that we were able to have the freedom (with the appropriate permissions, of course) to do this switch on the Base. As an added bonus, one of the Marines there helped out with a massive crane that probably took a couple of days off this operation!!! All this happened before I became a member, but I have helped with the move of our Conrail caboose from Deaborn, MI to Mt. Clemens. It was definitely a labor-intesive job with lots of hard work in not the best of weather conditions, but we made it just fine. A few minor repairs and some repainting and we hope to have it part of our operating collection this year!

Take care, and God bless!

Do you have any photographs of the lifting and loading of the Business car on to the Flatcar? Also do you have any photographs of the Flatcar with load? I've received good pictures of the other types of moves except this one. Hope you have some pictures to share. Steve

A series of photographs documenting the movement of Nevada Northern passenger cars and steam locomotive No. 93 from Ely, Nevada to Utah for the 2002 Winter Olympic games may be found at the following two Web sites.

Nevada Northern Railway Museum--

Nevada Northern & Railroads of White Pine County--

(The latter is my personal site while I'm volunteer webmaster for the former.)

This website has several photos of the highway movement of an nee-US Army hospital car - including photos of the unloading.

There are two picture sets on Mid-Continent's website of the Copper Range #29 move from 2004. Loading at Hancock, Mich is here:

http://www.midcontinent.org/collectn/st ... /load.html

Unloading at North Freedom here:

http://www.midcontinent.org/collectn/st ... nload.html

A total of three low-boy trucks were used. One for the boiler, one for the running gear and one for everything else. Two cranes did the heavy lifting.

Dave:

Please check your post against the article. The move was between the East Troy Electric Railroad in Wisconsin and MTM, not IRM.

I should know because I coordinated the move.

One interesting part of the move is that the former car ferry Badger was used in the move, to avoid road fees through Illinois and Indiana. It was the first time in many years that a rail car had used the Badger.
