Note the fact that the engine is skid-mounted. Probably aftermarket.
Seem to recall that the engine was removed from a PRR RSD-7.

Hopefully it will find a home this time around, as it is likely to be the last intact 16-244 we will see offered for sale for a long time. It looks to be the engine that Philadelphia Gear Company used for testing gear boxes for the Navy, I saw it at their facility when working on other projects there many years ago. The Philly Gear engine was previously posted on eBay when it was still in the building, with the stipulation that the buyer had to remove it, and got no bids. If this is the same engine, it is now at least in a place where it could be loaded and transported without having to take down a structure to get to it.

We looked at the engine the first time around at Phila. Gear, and knocking down walls was no big deal. The plant was being razed, and IIRC there was a hole in one end of the room that the 244 was in already; something only slightly smaller had gone out that way.

There was a steel building that was sold intact, and riggers were taking it apart for re-assembly elsewhere. So, walls, roofs, etc., were not a problem-

Hope the thing gets a good home. A museum in Auburn or Schenectady would be appropriate. Any idea where this one was built? Some of the 16-244s were built in Schenectady, while Auburn concentrated on the 539s, 251s and 12-244s.

Someone needs to remember something here: There were ONLY TWO locomotive models that used a 16-cylinder 244: the Alco RSD7 (none of the 17 built survive; the closest thing to it is the RSD15 that California State RR Museum supposedly has "stored" and it has a 251 engine), and the Alco PA.

Aside from a parts raider, an indoor museum with a LOT of space, or a hypothetical Alco museum in New York, there's only one potential buyer for this thing that "needs" it. ONE. (Well, two, really, but both Alco PAs are in the same place at the moment, right?)

Tell Doyle McCormack about this, and then let him and the seller broker whatever deal necessary. End of story, unless some wealthy benefactor wants to buy the Smithsonian or McCormack a present...........

The "D word" is officially banned from this discussion. That escapade has absolutely NOTHING to do with the legitimate preservation activities that are constantly being espoused on this site.

I've got a better idea-rescue the last remaining PA hulk from Brazil and restore it with the correct engine, traction generator, controls and so on.-and paint it up "New Haven."

The two PAs in the US were modified by MK for the 251 engine. To restore the chassis for the 16-244 would not be easy. And when that 16-244 gives you problems, then what? Remember, the "NKP 190" is being restored as an operators piece, not a static exhibit.

It would be a shame to let this go to scrap.
All the previous comments are valid but it is
not a common item and someday a PA with
a stock engine will be a very big deal.

No, I don't blame Doyle one bit for
using a 251. But it would be good
to have the 244 in the shop for later...
