After reading the brief about RMLI's 25-tonner, I am a bit perplexed. The writer mentions it being "direct drive" from the diesel engine.

Every GE 25-tonner that I've ever seen (including RMNE's 1952 25-tonner) has one diesel engine coupled to a main generator, thus provding power for one traction motor. The second axle is driven via a large chain drive.

And, every GE industrial diesel locomotive (of any size) that I've ever seen is indeed a diesel-electric.

Could this one be "different"?

Nope.

Very,very similar to the 'quarter pounder' that came out of Yankee Gas-including the electric drive.

No gearshift or clutch pedal to be found.

Because it was a press release from the museum I didn't edit it too closely. I too am puzzled by that statement. I sent an email to the museum requesting clarification. We'll see what they say.
