From the Historic Sierra Railway group:

THE SKUNK TRAIN IS UP AND RUNNING AGAIN
>
>
>
>FORT BRAGG, CA - Leaving the winter recovery work in the capable hands of a
>very experienced railroad repair crew, the Skunk Train is scheduled to begin
>excursions out of Fort Bragg and Willits this weekend.
>
>Beginning Saturday, April 8, the very popular Wolf Tree trip will depart
>Willits AT 9:45 a.m. and travel along pasture lands, through a tunnel and up
>the mountain into the redwood forest. The 90-minute roundtrip is designed
>for people who want the full train experience but do not have a lot of time.
>
>
>Also beginning on April 8 is the new highly scenic trip to Glen Blair
>Junction. Departing Fort Bragg at 11:00 a.m., the Skunk Train travels along
>the Pudding Creek Estuary, on tracks first built in 1885. In the early days
>of the railroad and logging, Pudding Creek was used as a log storage area
>for the Union Lumber Company and later the water that is dammed at the mouth
>was pumped into the sawmill for use in the hydraulic log de-barker. This
>time of year the views are spectacular with an abundance of waterfowl,
>including blue heron, white cranes, a variety ducks, swans, and osprey.
>Even the turtles are resting on logs. The train will stop along the way for
>photo opportunities only available by train. The Skunk Train rolls along
>Pudding Creek and into the redwoods before arriving at Glen Blair Junction,
>where passengers disembark for a delicious barbecue lunch before returning
>to Fort Bragg.

I have a video on the Skunk Train, I think by Pentrex, that shows that they still carry US Mail. Is this still the case and if not when did the mail service end?

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.
