Hello Dennis,

I was hoping you might know how to get a hold of the present owners of the Texas Zephyr in Saudi Arabia.

Im presently evaluating the possibility of restoring a Zephyr that might be available for sale.

Regards
Mario

Hi Dennis;

In about the mid 1990s, there were eight of the Vulcan "Skyliner" 2-10-0s left in Turkey. 56375 has been preserved in the Ankara Museum; 56337 in the Camlik Museum. 56369, 56376, 56378, 56382, and 56336 were stored awaiting scrap by Turkish State Railways (TCDD).

56359 was last reported as stored operational by the TCDD at Halkapinar.

One of the meter gauge Baldwin 2-10-4s in Brazil is on display in the public square in Bananal, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Four others are still at the Dona Teresa Cristina Railway; one was scrapped in 1994. The boiler exploded in one of these locos in 1992 (probably no. 312); 309 was reported as scrapped in 1994. There were originally 14 of them.

The 2-10-2s were all built by Skoda. They are or were operational until recently; there are a total of nine of them.

What about the Baldwin Pacific in Sao Paolo?

Don't recall the number off the top of my head...

There are now four preserved Baldwin Pacifics in Sao Paolo. All have been reported to be in operational condition; at least three by the railfan group the ABPF.

For more details, I refer you to the webpage at:

http://www.steam.demon.co.uk/trains/brazil13.htm

and my Surviving World Steam Locomotive CD-ROM. It has details on many of the surviving steam locomotives in South and Central America; and photographs from that region continue to come in; the May 2006 update CD will include photographs of many of the survivors in Bolivia (including Kitson Meyer and other locomotives in the remote graveyard in the desert outside of Uyuni); along with Peru.

This is an old post from way before phpbb and even before webbbs.

I don't think Dennis has been active on the board for awhile.

I'll see if I can track him down and get him to respond.
