Clearing things up here. I have NOT attacked anyone one here, discouraged, discredited in my posts or replies. I completely stand behind everything I have posted and, if need be defend what I have written vigorously. I don't hit and run and if corrected I will admit I was incorrect especially if it was of a subjective and interpretive nature. And, I certainly don't edit my posts after I send them, what I state stands unlike others that have and do. I also don't like going "off list" if I have something to say I say. With that being said, I am not offended but rather irked over the insinuation that I have over what should have been a simple inquiry..

To Eric, John, and Howard and whom ever, in my initial post all I stated and asked was a little bio / history about someone who is featured on the front spread of a national magazine article and who posts here stating he is the spokesman for a well recognized organization. No more , no less ! The facts as stated are.

I had never seen Kelly out there. I Not saying he has or hasn't ever been out there just I did not ever seen him during the restoration when I happened to be there.

The one time I did was at the open house taking pictures. In fact I recognized him from one of my pictures as he got in mine while taking his own. Again redoing the website he needs to take pictures. No more , no less! WARNING " NEXT TIME THE BALLAST FLIES, KELLY !
DISCLAIMER
(The above STATEMENT is purely humor and not meant to be taken as actual verbal assault or the possiblity that an assault will occur)

And calling him "Cover Boy" was meant tongue in cheek and if that is SO offensive I'm sorry And than grow a thicker skin.

Eric in all honesty, it was/is a well written article and there should be more highlighting steam. But it did feature Kelly with no content as to why he is featured.

JAC , Howard, why is it unreasonable of me to ask a little bit about his background>

JAC , Say when you go to a CLASS 1 railroad or tourist line and say you want to charter a trip. And they know nothing about who you are or what your proposal is about. Aren't you able to say : Here is a little history of myself, these are the trips I have organized successfully , here are some photos of what we achieved, this is how we cn do things from how I have done them in the past.

Or Howard , Lets say you petition someone for money, sponsorship or heck even credit to get some work done and they ask you well what is your history and background. You would be able to but together an outline of yourself that says you have done this that or the other. Achieved these goals, organized this completed these acheivments.

Now Howard, you stated
"The ability to write a coherent, compelling press release, the ability to speak intelligently with a local (or national) media person, the ability to schmooze a local or state politico, or business CEO, the ability to put together an attractive website, a well-crafted grant proposal....these are all every bit as important as knowing how to set the governor on a Pyle-National K-240 dynamo, how to feed the flue roller into the tube, how to repack the driving box cellars. In fact, without the world knowing about the results (the live engine), and the interesting stories about how this 220-ton hunk 'o iron came back to life, what use are the "metal-banging" skills?"

I completely agree with you, but it begs to ask the question, that here is someone listing them selves as the PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER that can't or won't give a short bio of himself? I figured on getting a short reasonable response as to who he is for those of us that don't know him. It certainly does not lend itself to credibility when you are in front of the very persons you list in your post and you can't succinctly give a response.

And, back to JAC to say that I should get banned by the ADMIN for asking a response from someone. is wrong I have not flamed, sniped, attacked, slandered liabled or anything else here and to lump myself with some miscreants that allege malfeasance of others is wrong in and of itself.

S A

And thank you Greg though I have never met you, you state what I said above before I could post it.

Kelly's reply which is more than I was asking for.

Kelly reply:
I've been on the payroll at the Ohio Central, working full time, 15 hours a day, seven days a week under John Rimmasch. I cleaned and repaired the inside of LS&I's tender, cut, fastened, and applied jacketing, applied insulation, rolled flues and tubes, fastened the thermic syphons, drove stays and rivets, cleaned and repaired delivery pipes, aided in boiler testing, wash outs, etc. I also serviced CP 1293 and GTW 6325 and was a part of the operating crew for the summer season in 2004. I have no default "trade skill", but I'm handy with plenty of stamnia and the ability to fit into tight spaces. I still get to the OC as often as possible during their volunteer work sessions.

I've also worked and serviced CN 3254 and CP 2317 at Steamtown, engaging in hostling, firing, and roundhouse servicing. I'm also helping the Little River Railroad with their servicing and public relations. I just got them a spot in a feature for the History Channel.

On the 765, I've taken over public relations, completely redesigning the website to give the Society a professional, educational public appearence while redesigning and publishing our brochures, press kits, press releases, and readying two up coming publications. I answer several hundred emails a week, aid in the arrangement of Engineer for an Hour appointments, serve as brakeman on our rides and during events on the grounds.

On the shop floor, I've worked under Gary Bensman in the boiler and on running gear. With Zach Hall I've driven stays and rivets, with Bob Gold I've applied jacketing, insulation, and mud packing. I painted every square inch of the inside of the boiler with protectant, gunned and scaled the entire smokebox and much of the firebox, (re)sanded the entire tender with another volunteer (after the paint job had been flubbed), and much more.

None of these tasks are incredibly special, but I am the youngest on the crew, and the PR job is one that has never really been done before, and it's necessary work. I do all of this while working full time, going to school full time, and making films in the industry, several of which are railroad-centric, one of which will take place at the Buffalo Central Terminal next fall.

OK everybody, please let's just stop this.

This kind of useless back-and-forth debate for its own sake is not what the RyPN is for. It arguably violates several of the Interchange guidelines. It certainly is serving no useful purpose.

I am a super-moderator of sorts on this Board, but I have to recuse myself from moderating this thread as I am at least in part a subject of it.

So, not as a moderator but as a fellow Interchange reader and participant, I will just ask everyone, please--let this all rest where it stands and move on.

At the suggestion of a couple of our members, I have deleted some of the "steamier" posts that resulted in the lockdown. That being said, the lockdown continues.
