As information for the internal combustion folks, Fluke has come out with a model 1587 hand held digital multimeter that has a built in 50 to 1000 VDC insulation test feature. It requires no AC power source like a traditional Hi-Pot, which makes it great for the field.

Available through Grainger for about $550.00.

Question: What is the current design device that replaces old dynamo? for setting the EMD VI relay ?

We still use the 0 to 1200 volt MG set for setting up transition, DB, and other odds and ends....To the best of my knowledge there is no replacement but any 0 to 1200 volt DC power supply that puts out 6 amps should work.

As far as the new Fluke meter uses it should prove pretty handy for the control system grounds and generally solid power system grounds....but the intermittant ones on the power side (traction motor/main gen/cabling etc.) that make you pull out your hair will still need the big Biddle Hi-Pot as they are most reliably found between 3 and 5 KV.
