Tranfer Tables

No one has mentioned transfer tables at any transit system facilities. As I recall, CTA has one at the Skokie shops and TTC at the Greenwood rapid transit shop. There are probably more than one in NYCTA facilities such as Coney Island and 207th St. If anyone has more information on transit system transfer tables, I encourage a reply

Also, the Baltimore Streetcar Museum recently acquired a transfer table from a relatively short-lived entrant into the transit carbuilding business, and is storing it for future use.

Regarding the OERM transfer table -- it has not been installed! It is setting on set of rails that are at ground level.

The PE transfer tables are something like 72 or 75 or 78 foot long. The PE "blimps" -- the ex-SP and ex-NWP cars from the SF Bay area completely filled up the table. I recall figuring that we could get 85’ long passenger cars on it with the vestibules, etc. overhanging the ends of the transfer table.

A transfer table not mentioned so far is the one that the Union Pacific has at its diesel shop at North Little Rock, Arkansas.

There was or possibly still is a transfer table and existing roundhouse in Logansport, Indiana. It has been quite a few years since I have been there, but the last time I was there it was being used as a car repair facility with wrecked cars sitting on the backside of the tranfer table waiting their turn to go into the roundhouse for repair. I remember the turntable being powered by a winch on the ground, but the transfer table still had it's operator cab.

Don't forget the one at Amtrak's Beech Grove's shops.....

Yes, the PRR had two turntables and a transfer table at the Juniata Shop and one at the E. Altoona Roundhouse.

Only one of the turntables is left and the transfer table is still in use by the Union Tank Car Co. This used to be the passenger car shop.

There are a lot of turntables and transfer tables still in use and I think a list might be a little large.

The transfer table from the Hagerstown roundhouse sits on the ground there.

The 3 foot gauge East Broad Top uses a turntable also.
