Anyone know what the heritage of the GP30 or its plans are?

http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=144928

Also, 4449 was built with a system for cooling her tires with water. Does anyone know if this is intact, or even still used?

Many thanks!

Joshua

Never underestimate the power of a well-crafted Google search.

"Puget Sound & Pacific 3005 is an EMD GP30 and was one of the first locomotives to serve the line. This unit was built in October, 1962 for the Baltimore & Ohio. It was formerly B&O number 6918, CSX number 4239, Ohio Central 4239 and Arizona & California 3005."

Last time I looked, BNSF was still using ex-ATSF GP30's in daily service, still in the later blue-and-yellow paint job. I've seen at least six different road numbers in the past year. No doubt they've had some upgrades since 1962.

I regularly see GP-30's on CSX passing through Silver Spring, MD, although they are now slugs.
