I'll be honest, that pic's a little depressing for me to look at.

On the positive note, at least they're going to a good home.

Out of curiosity, does any one know why CP bought these two?
Just available?

It just sounds strange to me that such a large railroad would some to such a small one looking for power....

Yeah, I was at Morgan Run the day they left. I was working on 1293. They were sitting just outside the door to the engine house for a bit. I turned around to do some wrenching and they were gone... I was kicking myself for not snapping a quick picture.

Someone on another website was reporting that CPR will not be rebuilding their 1400/1401, part current exec/excursion F power, hence the purchase of these units. Anyone know the plans for the 1400/1401? (one if not both original CPR unlike these CN/VIA/OC units).

They have no plans on getting rid of 1401 for now, but 1400 is toast! It has already been stripped of many of its internal parts.

My understanding is that it's less expensive to purchase these, than to overhaul the current Royal Canadian Pacific A-units.

Ryan-
Don't feel alone; I was working on the same engine (probably in the same spot) the day they arrived. Funny --- never figured I'd see them leave so soon. Then again, there's a lot of things that, well..... ah, forget it.

It is my understanding that the ex-OC units were among a group of FP-9's that VIA had rebuilt in the early 1990's to cover a few of their remaining non-mainline services. This rebuilding included self-contained HEP generators (hence the mufflers on the rear of the units). I do not know what else this rebuilding entailed.

Likewise, the ex-Nebokta units did not pass through such a rebuilding program. (for those interested, I recommend asking at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LocoNotes/ )

Here is data on the heritage of the ex-Nebokta units: from

http://membrane.com/~elmer/rail/units/f_units.html - which remains an execellent resource for tracking F-units.

CP FP7A Canadian Canada Active A520 4/53
1400 Pacific ex NEB 55, ex VIA 6550, ex VIA 1400,
ex CP 1400, nee CP 4099

CP FP9A Canadian Canada Active A1401 7/58
1401 Pacifc ex NEB 54, ex VIA 6541, ex CN 6541

CP F9B Canadian Canada Active A629 1/55
1900 Pacific ex NEB 66, ex VIA 6612, ex CN 6612

Are these the F's that came out of the Gettysburg RR operation?

No. I believe OCRR purchased them directly from VIA two or three years ago. They were rebuilt and painted in PRR liverly by the Ontario Northland Railway shortly after they purchased them. I may be wrong about it being ONR, but I know the work was all done in Ontario before leaving Canada.

The ex-Gettsburg F7s are #s 1000 and 1001, currently in the Morgan Run deadline. I have read on a message board that OC will fix these two up for the NRHS convention, but that's not been fully confirmed.
